Veterinary Technology

Veterinary Technology

According to the AVMA, Veterinary Technician is defined as a graduate of a two- or three-year accredited program in veterinary technology. Veterinary Technologist is defined as a graduate of a four-year accredited program in veterinary technology.

There are three AVMA CVTEA (Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities) accredited veterinary technology programs in Connecticut. They are:

Middlesex Community College, 100 Training Hill Road, Middletown, CT 06457
Northwestern Community College, Park Place East, Winsted, CT 06098
Norwalk Community College, 188 Richards Ave, Norwalk, CT 06854

The State of Connecticut does not credential veterinary technicians. For more information regarding voluntary certification, please contact the Connecticut Veterinary Technician Association.

The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) has launched the Veterinary Nurse Initiative. The goal is to create standardized title of “veterinary nurse” in all 50 states.  In addition, a standard would be set in all 50 states for maintenance of credentials.
